Historic Jeffrey pine, Pinus jeffreyi, on top of Sentinel Dome in Yosemite National Park. Half Dome is in the background. This tree, made famous by Ansel Adams, died in the early 1980's. This picture was taken in the mid-1970's, and I have never wanted to return since the tree died. This is an example of a tree being loved to death.
