Ed, This is breathtaking. I was there way back in the summer of 1969 on a trip I took to California just after graduating high school. I cannot believe 45 years have past so fast! This image reminds me too of the free climbers recently on National TV that made such news! fav Jerry

Winter view of the southwest face of El Capitan in Yosemite Valley, as seen on 3-5-1970. Photo taken with a 4x5 view camera. It is no longer possible to get this open a view of the SW face from here (in 2014), as trees have grown to the extent that they obscure part of the face.

Ed began photographing seriously in 1956 when he started shooting in a 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 camera. In 1962 he started shooting in 4x5 film format with a view camera, and over the next 50 years built perhaps the largest private library of large format inspirational, mountain and nature images in North America. He began digital photography in 2007, both adding new images, as well as converting old film from the previous decades, to digital form. All photos are unedited and unaltered except for the digital restoration of the older film images.
